30-31/01/2012 - Attending ISM 2012 (Cologne) - This year we will be visiting our first ISM where we will be meeting both existing suppliers and customers. The largest confectionery trade show in the world, we hope to find new suppliers in an area of business that is becoming increasingly important to our business.

Attended Top Drawer and Home Spring / Summer 2012

On the 15th we attended Top Drawer and Home at London's Earls Court. Compared to some other recent shows this was surprisingly busy with lots of interesting manufacturers of candles, soaps, decorate home ware, pottery, cushions, kitchen ware, greetings cards, Tea* gifts &c, &c...from these we were lucky enough to find a small selection of high quality brands from Britain and the EU which are currently not available in Japan, and hope to be offering some of their products soon.

*(including a new supplier of really good tea's)

Attended Be 100% Design

In late September we attended Be 100% Design, looking for small products that could complement our food lines and support our interest in design. Our attention was taken by some other very interesting products including Uncle Oswald is my Hero's vintage telephone portable speaker system and Uta Koloczek's porcelain dogs.

As for the food related items, we did find a small studio producing really original ceramics which we hope to be able to offer to our customers.

Attended Speciality and Fine Food Fair

On the 1^st September we attended the Speciality and Fine Food Fair to meet with a number of suppliers and find new food and drink products to export. Among the suppliers we met were representatives from Roots and Wings and Richard and William from Graces Irish Biscuits. We also found a number of small, high quality brands who interested us a lot; some of which we hope to be able to work with in future.

Attended Pulse 2011

On 5th June we attended the design and gift fair Pulse. Whilst the show was a little quiet this year we spoke with some interesting manufacturers or a number of different products and came away with some good ideas for the Japanese market.

Additionally we have begun to notice some definite gaps in the UK market and a lack of variety in some areas which would be ripe for filling with Japanese products. We are beginning to investigate candidate lines from Japan and will should begin offering the first of these in the UK soon.

Attended London International Wine Fair 2011

On the 19th of May a representative of Clifton Trading attended the London International Wine Fair (LIWF), looking specifically for new or niche drinks which are not currently available in the Japanese market. Following this we have struck up relationships with a couple of very interesting producers or unique, high quality products, which we hope to introduce in to the Japanese market later this year.

Attended Spirit of Summer Fair

On the 12th May some of our team attended the Spirit of Summer fair at London's Olympia. This trade show featured a number of Garden, alfresco dining, picnic and outdoor goods especially for the summer season.

Attended Natural & Organic Products Europe 2011

On the 3rd of April we attended the Natural and Organics Products Europe 2011 show at Olympia, London. Here we discovered a number of exciting new brands and struck up some good relationships with a range of food, healthcare and cosmetics manufacturers.
